We got offered a green house the other, so today I set about removing the glass. It’s quite time consuming unclipping and removing pains of glass that are grown in with moss over many years. I might try just carrying the frame home in one complete piece.
I managed to get a Golder sign from the old Bourne End office before they tossed them all in the skip.
We have had Jason from Burnwood Chimneys in to do the rip out and creation of the opening for the stove. Me rremoving the wall paper before Jason arrives. Day one, the demolition was mostly completed. Day 2 rebuild in progress. Drying well.
Hannah found that she had accidentally brought a tortoiseshell butterfly into the house. We think it came in on a bag that wound up in the bathroom.
We’re taking up the gravel at the back door and planning to replace it with paving slabs. We have a lot of the gravel up, but I wanted to get shot of a fair bit, so Simon said he’d have it at his place as infill around his new house. So we spun up there in the Land Rover well laden. I forgot to get an after shot of the side of the Land Rover for comparison. We had already unloaded two bags and a lump of concrete before I took the photos, we weren’t about to put them back in just for a picture. That was 4 fingers between wheel and arch, normally I think I can fit way more than a hand in there. I guess it’s similar to the front arch when unladen. There were about 8 gravel bags, I would think each weighing about 25 kg, […]
We went for a walk yesterday evening and saw this spring bathed in a beautiful yellow evening light.
Do you see the cockerel / rooster / big chicken in the clouds? I had this pointed out to me by a sharp eyed relative.
I went for a lunch time bike ride today up past Chilfrome. I would imagine that this is the green and pleasant they talk about… given that it’s winter here, this isn’t too bad I don’t think.
We visited Powerstock Common today for the first time. This is the location:
I finally got some more done to the loft shelving. Managed to finish the long shelf that runs the length of the house, then also managed to finish a big shelf that spans the middle of three of the trusses at the end of the house. This is 1200 mm deep by about 2700 mm wide, but of cause the trusses come through one end of it, so the useful area is less than that. Next I need to continue with another shelf that will run most of the length of the house on the other side.
