First off we went to Coniston were we visited a church bazaar and got Brendan got to meet one of Hannah’s IT students, we had a lovely lunch and got some cup cakes, then we headed for Toronto. About half way we stopped for a coffee at a gas station. We got our coffee and hot chocolate at Country Style, but it’s part of a small strip mall of sorts, so Hannah went and took a look around the shops, there was some fun stuff there, but we didn’t get much. We did get a couple of kinder eggs though, they’re really cool these days: Anyway, we arrived safe and sound at 7.30 having taken a wrong turn before the 401, but we didn’t need to break the maps out of the glove box, we’re almost locals here now, I am sure the receptionist at the hotel recognized us!! (Please […]
So Hannah and I have various UK electrical items, which we have been running one at a time on a UK to Canadian 2 pin plug adapter, then when we returned to Canada we brought with us a UK 4 gang extension lead. Last night we went out and bought a very cheap 2 pin Canadian plug. I then did some research to discover which pin is live/hot and which is neutral, I read in two rather dodgy sources that the larger of the two pins is neutral and the smaller is live or hot. Not having any real tools here I used my Leatherman knife to undo the screws on the extension lead plug and take the wires out of the plug. I then realised that I needed to start with a clean cable so simply sliced the end of the cable right off with the knife, I then […]
Well, I’ve been back at work for the best part of a week, Hannah has been getting us back in order this past week. We’ve not been very active this week just gone. Taking a step back, we have see these in Pearson Airport before, but we got pictures this time: The weather is warmer and wetter than expected, but thats ok, my wife says that she likes the weather colder.. So this weekend we have been and seen what is left of the Fall colors (Autumn colours). We went to Onanping Falls, which is about 40min drive north. Apparently they were lovely a week ago, I think we missed the best of it.
Hannah and I have volunteered to help out at a wildlife place, they take in animals of all kinds and sizes, from mice to moose as they said. Hannah is helping out looking after the animals and I helped out building racoon cages. Brian had three frames made up for shuttering the concrete, now they’re at the stage where they can pour concrete. Hannah cleaned some of the racoon cages and also bottle fed some of the racoons. I saw a bald eagle and a coyote, also they had a number of racoons in a cage who watched us working. The animals there dont show any signs of fear, I dont think that animals here are as scared of humans as they are in the UK. The racoons are very curious, they come to the mesh and snif and look at you. Some animals are naturally very shy, but those […]
Well Brendan has had a hectic week at work this week, and Hannah and Jessica haven’t been taking too slow either. Last weekend we went to Kilarny provincial park on Saturady, were we had fish and chips!! They were good, I was very suprised. I can honestly say that they were the best fresh water fish and chips I have ever had. Kilarny is very pretty, its small village with a poplation of approximatly 450. When the sun shines I bet it more than doubles. We went swimming in a local lake with a ‘beach’, but it was such a hot humid day that we didn’t do much else. Its about a 2 hour drive to get there so when we got home we just flaked. So up early again on Sunday, 9 ish I think. We travelled to Manitoulin Island which is about a 2 and a half hour […]
Hannah and I made the jump from the Golder house to our own place over the week from July 1st to the 10th. We started livng here from the night of the 11th, we have arranged to get cable TV, internet and a land line phone, but that isn’t being installed until July 26th. Joel arrived in Canada whilst we where in Mississauga the other week, so we’ve had him for company for a week, and also someone to help with moving furniture. We borrowed a Golder truck twice to get the move done. Jessica arrived here on the Wednesday night. We’ve been doing out best to keep her entertained! Here are a few pictures from quite a few weeks ago from our phone.. We went to Katies parents camp on lake Nispissing. And on sunday we went to French river then to North bay
Hi, It has been a little while since our last post. This last week we have been down in Mississauga as Brendan’s manager has been trying to convince us to move down there. We were willing to give it a try but coming from Cornwall, we had doubts that we would enjoy living so close to the ‘big city’! We drove down on Saturday and on the way stopped off at a place called French River. We had stopped there when we were last in Canada but it was very different without the snow! There is a visitor center there and then you can walk across the river which provides stunning views. On our way to the visit center we could hear a strange tinny noise. We looked around for the source of the noise but couldn’t see anything so continued walking. It was strange as the area was so […]
Monday night we ate out in The Laughing Buddha, which we were recommended. It was good, we ate outside on their deck. Very nice pizza. Tuesday night we went out and saw a film with Mike, in the Rainbow Center, it’s their $2 film night. We saw Limitless, which was good and a nice way to spend an evening. It was about 30deg C that day. Wednesday Mike insisted on doing a ‘Whopper night’, he went and got the stuff, burgers, salad and fruit for desert. It was really good!! We’ll probably do it again! Yves showed us pictures of Diavik mine site when he was working there, he had loads of pictures of moose and bears that he’d seen. Thursday night we went house hunting, looked at two places, both apartments, the first just off Regent street, off York street.. nice but nothing special, then the second place on […]
Well last weekend (28th 29th May) we made it to Windy Lake where I saw some poison Ivy! I think I walked in it, but I haven’t yet come up in the rash so we hope that I’ve not been got! On Monday we met up with one of Hannah’s relatives who lives in Sudbury. We saw Brides Maids the film on Wednesday. This weekend (4th 5th June) we spent Saturday shopping for small bits and pieces and Sunday we did went to the Farmers Market, where we had some pastries and a fruit smoothy. We viewed a basement apartment on Saturday which was very small but also very cheap, we’ve sort of decided no on that one, unless we get stuck..
Hello everybody :) Well this weekend was a bank holiday weekend for the Canadians. We decided to be cultural and visit the museums – Science North and Dynamic Earth. Saturday we went to Science North. It was awesome. We were going to pay for a three day passport which would allow us admission to both museums and to the IMAX and planetarium. But on arrival we found that it was cheaper to get a year admission – which means Jessica, you will be visiting both with us as we get a 50% discount on guests :) Science North was brilliant – it has three floors; the first floor there are lots of live insects and some dead ones too – and there is a butterfly area. The second floor there is a beaver, porcupine and skunk as well as snakes, turtles, flying squirrels and bats. On the third floor there […]
