Fairly random selection of photos from Hannah’s phone And pictures taken on our trip to Manitoulin Island: Last night we stayed in and didn’t get up to anything much, short of watching tv. I think I forgot to mention in the last entry that we met a couple (Paul and Karen) up the road towards Winchester Avenue, they had a couple of alcoholic beverages, but where very friendly and proceeded to tell us all about the local area, they do a lot of publicity type stuff for Sudbury, so they know the history etc, fascinating! Apparently since they’ve lived there (about 25 years) they’ve had snowy rabbits, foxes, racoons, coyotes and even a bear in their garden, which is impressive I though! Their property backs onto the hill out to the north of us. They have a lovely view of Sudbury form their stoop. That’s where I took the sunset […]
Well, this week was interesting. We had two house guests this week – Mike and Neven (who we had met here on our first night in Sudbury) On Tuesday we had a couple of Mormon missionaries around; Michael had invited them. They were very friendly;one of the guys came from a farming background and his family grow sugar beat. Fascinating! Mike made taco’s for us all and a fruit salad thing. On Wednesday we decided we’d go and see a film. Neven gave me a lift home from work whilst Mike stayed at work late. We decided we’d go and get some food out, and as I understood it, Mike would be meeting us at the cinema after Neven, Hannah and I had eaten. We went and got a Wendy’s then Neven dropped us at Silver city (The big cinema). We bought tickets and Mike was no where to be […]
Hello everyone, Well another week has gone by. Hannah made lasagne for us on Tuesday – it was difficult sourcing the same ingredients as we use in England and so many include added salt. Some of the pictures should give you an example of what the difference is in food!! Maple syrup with beans!! Very strange and we’re not even tempted to try them! We have had Mike staying here again – Tuesday through to Friday which was nice; we spend quite a lot of time talking as he is a fountain of knowledge. Hannah was offered a job as an event specialist working in Walmart but for an outside company; she ended up turning it down as we decided it wasn’t worth her working weekends. However she is now volunteering at the library to teach IT to seniors one on one. We went to the IMAX on Thursday to […]
A few pictures from our weekend: Hannah and I got out and about a bit last weekend, they’ve had a very wet start to the year here, we’ve not noticed it really, but apparently water levels are high, in other parts of Canada there is flooding but nothing that serious here. We went to Manitoulin island on Sunday and saw the Bridal Vail falls: Wikipidia’s take on the falls Cornwall UK, has a land mass of 3,563 km2 (1,376 sq mi) and Manitoulin Island has a land mass of 2,766 km² (1,068 square miles), not that different! However the population of Cornwall is a fraction over half a million but Manitoulin island is about 12.5 thousand!
Hello Hope everyone is well. Hannah has now, as of yesterday, stopped taking all pain medication :) she is feeling quite sore but considerably better although we are not sure how long the nurses will still have to come for. Today we have opened our Canadian bank account. Brendan is settling in at work; they had brought him a brand new computer which he is enjoying (approx $5,000 worth!) Like all new things it is having teething issues with software but they are nearly all ironed out now. On Tuesday evening Brendan’s colleagues, Jim Anderson, Ibrahim, Sanjay plus other half, came back to the house for a drink and then took us out for dinner. We went to a Greek restaurant which was really nice then we took in a film (Lincoln Lawyer) It was a really nice evening. (Jim had taken us out in Cornwall to a Thai restaurant […]
I (Brendan) went for a walk to our local shop, which is on Douglas Street, about 700m away. I took a few pictures along the way, its a typical suburban type place here in Sudbury, not the nicest/poshest, but also far from the worst. Also Hannah with her Tim Hortons coffee and our Easter chocolate! We popped to Tim Hortons for a coffee, its a common thing to do in Canada, but most use the ‘drive thru’ and done go in.. We went to Walmart yesterday in search of Easter eggs, but they’d pretty much sold out. So we got these!! Just leaving the house, looking back down the road. Along the way.. Our local shop Hannah and I made a lovely roast today, we wolfed most of it down, but there was soo much we’re going to fry the rest for tomorrow’s dinner.
Some photos from the last few days; Our fridge :) Tropicana comes on 3.85ltr bottles yet milk comes in bags?! You don’t buy multi bags of crisps! It is a multi box! Hannah’s Canadian pasty. Thought this would amuse Uncle Paul – its a pudding at Taco Bell All of Hannah’s medical stuff. We almost have our own pharmacy! And she is happy – she gets to have a plaster!! Thank you everyone for our lovely cards – as there is no -one else in the house at the moment we are displaying our cards in the front room :) Hope you like the photos. Happy Easter to everyone. Hannah is cooking us a roast for lunch in our enormous oven! The nurse has visited for the day and Hannah said that it hurt a lot less so that was a nice surprise although it is still very sore to […]
So we woke up to snow this morning; pretty awesome! It carried on snowing all day. We took Hannah to the doctors about lunch time today as she has been in a lot of pain; difficulty walking, sitting, standing and pretty much anything! Anyway after a visit to the walk in clinic the nice Irish doctor sent us straight to the emergency room as Hannah had an abscess at the base of her spine – no wonder she was in so much pain!! After a rather minor but painful surgery it is semi better. We will have daily visits from the nurses to change dressings etc which could take months or weeks. That was our day! From midday til now. We found out yesterday that in Canada, whichever mobile network you are on, you have to pay for incoming as well outgoing calls!! There is your interesting fact for the […]
