I went into the garage the other day, flicked the lights on as it was dark out, seconds later there was an electrical crack and the darkness was back. So I ignored the situation by carrying on with the battery power work lights. I gave the issue some thought and decided that since I thought the noise had come from one of the lights at the far end that I would start by unscrewing the individual covers and see what they were looking like inside. I was imagining that I’d find a stray wire, or a spider or something else creating a short circuit. I took two covers off before I found one that had water in it.

I cleaned it up and sprayed it with WD40 as that I felt would help with any water ingress. I put it all back together and tried the lights again but with the same result. So now I was unsure quite what the issue was, so this time I rushed down watch the crack from the fitting, and saw smoke coming from the lamp itself. So I removed and smelt the lamp, sure enough, nasty electrical burning smell. Having removed the lamp the remainder of the system works fine. I can only imagine that water had gotten into the lamp and driver bit perhaps.

I suspect that water is coming in through the fixings for the roof cladding sheets along the top row. It could be something else. I am not sure how to fix this properly, so I just glued the liner back up where it had come down used a bit of wood to support the liner over the light fitting to try to protect it from water.
