I did grind my axe, literally not figuratively, using the angle grinder and probably heated it too much and managed to change the molecular structure of the steel such that it softened. So yesterday I had my blowtorch on MAP gas and heated it and beat it back into shape, then quenched it in oil. I do not think that my blowtorch is really hot enough to achieve proper hardening and I was also worried that the head of the axe was getting too hot close to the plastic handle so I quenched sooner at a lower temperature than I would have liked to have.
I got a chainsaw sharpening kit yesterday and sharpened the chain. It’s easy to do, once I’d been shown how by a kind neighbour.
3 cubic meters of logs cut to between 8 and 10inches long (like the mix of units?) turned up in the back of a tipper. It took me a hour at the time when they turned up (12:00 noon), then another 3/4 hours before we went out (16:00) and another half an hour or so later on (20:00) when we came back to get them all stacked, which was 3 times longer than I hoped it would take to stack them all in.
I now have the gutter on the garage, just in time for the rain. I got a little footage of the gutter working shortly after installing it:
The last 3 roofing sheets turned up today and I got them on just in time for the weather to turn tomorrow. Next I need to go to Mole Valley Farmers for some 200×22 mm timber for the fascia boards to cover the top of the wall all around and then fit the gutter.
I asked a friend to come and help me remove the old roof and build the new roof in three days. We actually managed the removal and build in less than 2 days, but the tidy up and final work is not yet finished. Everything I needed two people to do is done however. Two trips to the tip have been completed also, mostly plant material that was growing over the roof. I have yet to break up some of the old pallets and dispose of them. This is a photo taken ever minute stitched into a video, this is the first day: The second day: Then I used clipchamp’s AI offering to make this video: So you might have noticed the unfinished nature of the roof, I failed to get the length of the garage building right, so didn’t order enough roofing sheets. They’re coming hopefully this week. I […]
Having rehung the gates, but this time level, I needed to extend the drop pin. I had found that I had some bar stock of the right size. After a bit of cutting, grinding, welding, grinding and a lick of Zink rich paint it was done.
I had noticed that the something was worn in the drive as there was always a clunck when pulling off. Not the worst I’ve experienced in the Land Rover, but not great either. So I picked up two new drive flanges for the rear axle. And a short video to round it off:
I ordered a coupler/bush, to adapt from some female metric thread to 1/4″ BSP male thread of thew air line. I guessed it was M10 ish thread on the inflater thingy. I guessed wrong. It was perhaps M12. I don’t know, and now it doesn’t matter anyway. The metal filler stuff, similar to plastic padding came out and resolved the issue permenantly.
Here are some pictures and a video of the bits I got from Zeus: Then I decided I should paint…
