Hacked a patch out some new 2 mm thick mild steel. Did it in the evening, the neighbours will not miss that aspect of me. Not too bad I didn’t think, the camera lense makes it look less concentric than it actually is. Having done all of the hacking and noisy stuff far away at the garage so as to not upset my direct neighbours or worse still wake the littlun, I retired to the garage for some fettling with the bastard file. I now think that I need to slit the exhaust where the patch will pass through the bracing braket.
Well, it turns out that the switch is not right, I tried and tried and finally noticed that it’s just not right, it fits, but at the wrong angle. I hope this one is right…
Got the land rover out today, most to go look at the Christmas lights, but then also tried to straighten up the sign of the front. It had become bent over for some reason.
I have set about learning blender. This is because a few people have mentioned it to me. Thought it would be fun. It is, I am following tutorials on YouTube by Blender Guru. So I have done part 1 and modelled and rendered a doughnut..
Guessing that it lives under the step outside the back door, that it’s prey lives under there. Maybe it’s prey used to live there and now it lives there. Who knows?
Well, we as a family have been busy trying to turn our lives up side down, but choosing to try to move house during these times. So I have done very little that is note worthy here. Mostly not been tinkering with the Land Rover. I did fit a new ball joint to the Volvo, but failed to get any pictures, so that event passed the blog by. I did a little bit of digital art work over the course of a few days:
Finished the grill thing, not in the form intended, I found that I happened to have a spare body/flange part, so I cut up one of the bad 3D prints that didn’t work out and just kept the ‘writing flat base part’ and glued it into the flange bit. A lick of paint and some lacquer to really make it stand out from the rest of the Land Rover: I hope this causes someones to chuckle when it’s fitted.
I have never liked the gear stick with the rubber vibration damper that comes on the LT77 gear box. It looks okay if you have a rubber boot over it, but I wanted mine to be more like the series gear stick. I am not sure that it isn’t too long, I haven’t driven it yet, so I might wind up cutting 3 inches off the last straight section.
Still in fair working order and not going into retirement just yet. I’ve been using this for more than a year now, I was given to me by my wife’s grand father who at 90 something no longer has much need of such tools. I cleaned it up and set it to work, without paying any attention to what was written on it. Then at the weekend I stopped to read it… wow! 1943 war production adjustable spanner.
Went for a walk on Sunday and saw some fire ants, I don’t think I’ve seen them in this part of the world before. This is possibly down to a lack of looking. This morning there was a bee in the living room on the window, seemed lethargic so we gave it some honey to help it on it’s way. I’ve been trying to identify the spiders, that we seem to have so many of, that spend their time in the sun on the warm concrete paving or walls outside. All of the photos were taken on my new Hauwei Mate P20 Pro phone, I’m pretty pleased with the camera on this phone.
