It’s been reasonably spectacular weather of recent in this part of the world. First we had some cold, which just gave us some pretty views, a fog filled valley and a little ice. Then it rained a bit and some rivers flooded. Hannah kindly video’d me going through a flood at Chilfrome, then I tried to video myself cycling throught the same flood the day after.
I spent a couple of hours last night tidying and working on the bench. I made a couple of plywood hooks to hang two of the bikes from. I managed to strip the concrete that one of the hold down bolts was going into, so had to make up my own chemical anchor solution using a but of tile grout and some water, than ran the bolt into that. I hope it does something. I was only bolting it down so that when I have the vice mounted, I can apply an upward load on it and not have the work bench rise with it. The addition of the shelf was going well until I realised I couldn’t put the ply in because the black shelves were in the way, so now I’ll have take all of the members out, put in the ply first and put them back.
On my lunchtime ride today,I pedaled through Chilfrome on my way.Up the hill I rode with glee,To avoid the valley where it might be wet, you see. The temperature today was fine,Around thirteen degrees, so divine. The wind from the west blew strong,But the hedge blocked it, so I didn’t mind it long. From the entrance to a farm up high,I saw a view that caught my eye.Cattistock, in all its glory,Made me stop and marvel at the story. So glad I took this road today,On my lunchtime ride, what a lovely way,To clear my head and stretch my legs,And enjoy the beauty that nature begs. I asked ChatGPT to re-write my paragraph into that poem… I’m not that good..
I decided to do a long ride on Friday lunch thing. This was it.. It wwas cold, frost was still on the northern slopes of the hills or in the shadow of the hedges.
We have given away the bike trailer that we were given for Abigail, but of cause having made a bracket for my bike it wouldn’t fit anyone else’s bike, so I have made a bracket for new recipients bike: I have made a better job of this than I did for my own bike. This one is steel and shouldn’t suffer with the bending and fatigue issues that I had with my previous bracket. I hope that by giving this away that we will get Abigail on a tag along type bike in an effort to get her riding.
I went for a bike ride on Tuesday to see what the flooding looked like. The top left photo: I chose not to ride through this was it’s probably about 0.3 meters deep. I rode around via Maiden Newton to see the extent of the flooding down stream. Unknown to me the water levels were still rising, so when I returned to the far side of this flood it was probably a few centimetres deeper. Either way I wanted to get home so rode through it. I got very wet feet.
The bike trailer that we have used to have a clamp arrangement that was meant to attached to the rear trailing arm right before the rear axle. This worked just about okay on the Claud Butler, short of the fact that it struggled to grip the small bore tube that the bike was made from. Then Dad kindly gave me his bike, so I tried it on that and it wouldn’t fit in the right location due to the disk brake calliper being there. So I set about making a custom mount. First off I stripped off the existing clamp arrangement. I forgot to get a before photo. It just so happened that there are two threaded holes at the rear of the frame that I guess might be for things such as a mud guard, pannier rack or kiddie seat. So I utilised those and just bent a bit […]
