Abigail made some plastic creations for school, with some help, she had the ideas and we just helped her make that a reality using hot glue and bits. It was good fun. I’d have liked to have tried floating the boat, but we never did, might have ruined it too had it not floated well. I did balast it a little in an effort to make it float upright rather than on it’s side!
Took the Land Rover to get a tune at a garage with a rolling road. It was an mini adventure getting it back, I took my bike in the train to Castle Cary, then rode the 4 miles to the garage. I had pleasent ride through the hills. Then a fun drive home. The tune up had changed the driving characteristics no end. Before on the left and afterwards on the right.
I came across Noble ROM that would upgrade my phone from Android 10 and OneUI 2.0 to Android 14 and OneUI 6.0. So over the last few days I set about gaining root access to my phone, and installing this using TWRP and Magisk. I have been most successful. The only draw back that I have now is that my backing app racgnises the fact that the phone if rooted, and as of yet I’ve not found a way around this. Otherwise, I have a much stripped down version of Android without all bloat that I didn’t want. So now my 6 year old Samsung Note9 is running a similar OS to that which you’d need to buy last years to get.
Air “filter” is pergaps strong, the filtering element is only really pre-cleaner rated foam, so it’ll stop stones and small animals etc getting sucked in, but it’s not going to stop the fine dust from going through the engine. I bought the foam on ebay. Now last time around when I made the mesh “filter”, I struggled to make a perfect cone which sat nicely into the housing. So I was thinking hard about how I could do it differently this time. When I went out to the garage I had an old bath room mirror, which I’d taken apart due to it potentioanlly being a rear view mirror in it’s next life. The base of the mirror just happens to look like the back plate for the air filter housing. I checked it’s size and found that not only was it the right size, but it also has a […]
When I got stuck in the mud some time ago (https://bhhh.co.uk/stuck-briefly/) I managed to use to the Hi-Lift jack to removed one of the hooks that holds the rear hood flap down. It pinged off and went in the mud and I wasn’t able to find it. I set about making a new one from some thin stainless steel I had lying around.
Had a bit of panic earlier this week, I realised the Volvo’s MoT was going to expire today, so I booked it in. The local garage mechanic has been called to do jury service, so he was only available today, the last day of MoT. I crossed my fingers and booked it in. I dropped it down this morning and luckily it passed with two advisories; tread low on one tyre and a little play in the steering. Not too shabby for a 38 year old car. Also this afternoon, I adjusted the doors to close tighter on the Volvo. Abigail wanted to clean the Citroen, so we wound up doing the Volvo too. We also located her swing on the drive.
First off, I fixed the door card thing, only that isn’t on a door. It’s where the door would be if it was a car with more doors like a 5 door. So in the back by the nearside passenger of the Volvo. The card bit was coming away. I made it fit better and then stuck it back in place, it’ll be nicer now as it wont squeak. Also I found that I had fitted the mud guard front for back and back for front, so switched them over, now I find I am better protected from the spray. Our emerssion heater had stopped working, so I removed the timer from the circuit, now it relies on the thermostate to control it during the off peak hours, we might find we have hotter water but perhaps are paying slightly more too. Who knows. Anyway, back on track, this is […]
When i bought the car way back in 2013, the sales man told me it wanted a new battery. Well it’s getting a new battery now (29th january 2024). Okay, he never said when, I wish he’d told me the lottery numbers really, that would have been more impressive. the battery wasn’t brilliant and didn’t hold charge very well, but it wasn’t bad enough to make me want to replace it, until now.
The grab handle over the off side rear door had broken and apparently come away from the car body. It transpired that only one side of the handle had a screw fastening it up the body, the other side was just there out of curtesy. So when it was used, it broke. Taking it apart I found that the little pin that carries the load was only plastic, so I made a new one from a metal screw. I also found another similar self tapping screw to fasten it to the car in both locations as it should have been.
I went on a work related trip to Australia in mid January. It was just a short trip to meet colleagues and visit a project site. I had great fun and enjoyed meeting the people and seeing the mine site. These pictrues start out in Sydney, then jump to Kalgoorlie, Kambalda and then to Perth, that was my trip in a nut shell.
