I had noticed that there was a grinding noise from the rear brakes a number of weeks ago, and hoped it was just grit and muck in the drum. I finally got around to taking the drum off and having a look yesterday. It was as I had imagined, not grit and muck, but the shoe was worn right out. This tells me that I should have looked ages back. I shall have to fettle the drum a little and remove some of that grooving. The depth of wear is not great, I’ll roll out the angle grinder and a flap wheel and just take it down a little. I’ll get shoes for the rear axle and do the other side while I am at it.
I picked up a second hand sickle at the Steam and Vintage show, I wanted one as I keep going on local walks and finding that I am cutting back foliage with my pocket knife, which is tiny and not really up to the job. It would be far faster with a sickle. I need to make a sheath for it though, as I am certain that it’s an offensive weapon and so should probably be holstered to avoid trouble. I have been wanting to buy one for ages, but a very cheap new one on Ebay is about 7 quid including postage etc, but that seems cheap and has a plastic handle but then a second hand one seems to be up nearer £20 or more with postage as they’re collectors items or something. So I saw this one with a price tag of £20, and got it for […]
We went to Chickerell Steam and Vintage Show at the weekend. I really enjoyed it. I think we all had fun actually.
Took some pictures of the Land Rover on the drive having been out for a drive on Sunday. I went to the Repair Cafe in Dorchester and then to the tip to get shot of the remainder of the leather sofa. I discovered that the other swivel housing is now leaking oil, so the next job is to replace the oil with the one shot grease as I did a while back in this post https://bhhh.co.uk/2022/04/29/. I did take the land rover out the other evening and advanced the timing to the point where it appeared to still run well at a reasonable rpm. I did this totally by ear and have not tried it since, so we’ll see how this goes, also made the fuel air mixture richer. It’s still not popping on overrun, which I would like to hear, as that would tell me that I was running […]
We picked up and fitted another rain water butt to help store some more water. I daisy chained it to our existing one. It rained quite heavily the other day and filled the first one up and began filling the second. I was uncertain how high up to put the connecting pipe. I put it about 1 pipe diameter below the inlet, my thinking was that the first tank will fill up then it will overflow into the second. Any matter that enters the first tank, such as moss and the like will tend to sink and not go into the second tank. When the second tank completely fills, then both tanks will continue to fill up to the inlet level and water will flow back into the down pipe. Lastly, had I connected the two tanks say halfway up and then the pipe connection leaked I might drain down […]
We managed to see about 70 World War Two vehicles come through Dorchester. I only took a few photos. I could easily have spent all afternoon there looking at them. The tracked vehicles made a fair mess of the tarmac/asphalt on the corner. There were bits of broken up road surface in the road and new pot holes. Pretty impressive to see and there was a really nice atmosphere there.
I spent a few hours clearing the undergrowth and the rubbish /cuttings and soil from the drainage ditch that runs along the back edge of the garage building last weekend. I did not get a before photo, but it was very full of stuff. I now need to do some digging at the far end to remove a lot of stone and soil from the ditch.
I purchased a cactus from a person in the village a week or more ago. I imagine it has been growing for some time to reach this size, literally some time. Also I was given this other cactus many years ago, but it’s seeming to glow a little, it’s produced some shoots recently. Then there are the seedling cacti which is doing nothing very much: Yes, that’s right, still not sign of life.
I did this because I could and the design isn’t well thought through and I don’t like it. As such there is a fair possibility that I will do it again. I simply have not yet managed to work out how to achieve the result I want. There a before and a few afters.. I want a spiral type shape to be formed, I think I need to cut a strip and somehow stitch it, not sure how.
